What is \u201cen passant\u201d (french for \u2018In Passing\u2019)?<\/span><\/h1>\n

It is pro\u00adnounced: en pas\u00b7\u200bsant<\/a>.  T<\/span><\/span>he his\u00adto\u00adry of en pas\u00adsant<\/a> with exam\u00adples<\/strong> before 15th cen\u00adtu\u00adry &<\/span> after 15th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, plus how some\u00adthing unfair became fair as it is today. \u2018<\/span>EN<\/span> PASSANT<\/span>\u2019<\/b> or \u2018in pass\u00ading\u2019<\/span> can only be done<\/span> on the very move fol\u00adlow\u00ading the move that the pawn made by try\u00ading to pass the oth\u00ader pawn. In the exam\u00adple below, the black pawn \u2018is not per\u00admit\u00adted escape this attack by use of the dou\u00adble move. \u2014 Had it<\/em>  moved only one square, it would been attacked\u2019<\/span>. This works for both sides of a pawn.
\nRules for en pas\u00adsant<\/i> cap\u00adture are<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

  1. If a pawn makes a dou\u00adble-jump, it can be cap\u00adtured by an adverse pawn that could have cap\u00adtured it had it advanced only one square.<\/li>\n
  2. The en pas\u00adsant<\/i> cap\u00adture must be exe\u00adcut\u00aded imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly or not at all; it may not be made at any lat\u00ader turn.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Below is the example for both 2D<\/span> and 3D<\/span> (top board = \u2018A\u2019, bottom board = \u2018B\u2019):<\/h2>\n
